The E3 Board of Directors believes every child needs books in their home. Here they are showing their support for statewide expansion of Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library.

The E3 Board and special guests listened to author, speaker, educator, literacy and juvenile justice advocate Hilder brand Pelzer about the school-to-prison pipeline that runs through reading classrooms and how we can stop it. He talked about the domino effect when students struggle to read and how that leads to frustration, absenteeism, misbehavior, delinquency and crime. The end of that pipeline often leads to incarceration.
We know that the solution begins with equipping our teachers to teach reading effectively. When our teachers struggle to teach reading, our students struggle to learn to read. Now is the time to disrupt the pipeline.

These women were instrumental in the success of our school. Together, they drove awareness, advocacy, investment, policy change, innovation and impact for thousands of children, families, teachers and programs in the region and state.
Over 10 years ago, Britney Blackman started as a teacher who helped develop and design the STREAMin3 curriculum model at our school in partnership with UVA. After a few years, she was promoted to coaching other teachers in the classroom and shortly thereafter became the director of coaching. Now she is leading our school along with the incredible team of coaches, teachers and staff that learned from her.
As you will see in the pictures, there was a lot of finger pointing and giving credit to one another.

What a year! We want to thank you for partnering with us to give the gift of reading to every child in communities across Virginia. Together, we will change the fact that over half of our students in K-2 grade are at high risk for reading difficulties.
