Take Action

EVERY Child Deserves to Read.

The first eight years of a child’s life are a critical time in language and literacy development. Too many of our children are not meeting literacy benchmarks upon kindergarten entry. Over half of Virginia’s students in kindergarten through second grade are at high to moderate risk of reading difficulties.

Take Action!

A child’s ability to read is a predictor of academic and life success. When children cannot read by third grade, it costs all of us. Remediation is expensive. If a child is not reading by third grade, they are 4x more likely not to graduate from high school.

Together, we can help every child read by third grade, and provide intervention for struggling readers. Learn more about our policy initiatives.

We need your help! Tell your legislators that we must make early literacy and reading a top priority. Take a few minutes to send your letter today.
